The PPEL major degree is the flagship undergraduate major of the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science. It is interdisciplinary, but our aim is not to be interdisciplinary so much as integrated. We aim to do Philosophy as Philosophy was done before Political Science and Economics split away to become their own autonomous academic fields. We aim to offer an especially intense learning environment that goes beyond a smattering of introductions to artificially separate fields.
Thus, while the PPEL major draws on established courses from philosophy, politics and economics, the heart of the program is a set of specialized core courses, designed excusively for PPEL majors. These courses are taught by distinguished faculty with appointments in philosophy, political science, economics, and law. In addition, the program allows students to pursue their own specialized interests by further study in one of our tracks.
