PEMS Department Headquarters Economics and Philosophy

From June 2025 through August 2026 the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science will be the editorial headquarters of the Cambridge University Press journal Economics and Philosophy. Economics and Philosophy is the foremost academic journal dedicated to publishing interdisciplinary articles that explore different wats that philosophy and economics interact. Consequently this is one of the foremost academic journals of the worldwide PPEL scholarly community. Starting June 2025, PEMS Professor Peter Vanderschraaf is serving a term as editor in chief of this journal.

Largest Cohort Attends the 2025 Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law (PPEL) Undergraduate Summer School

In June the Center for the Philosophy of Freedom brought together 51 outstanding students from 30 universities for the Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law (PPEL) Undergraduate Summer School for an unforgettable four-day academic experience at the University of San Diego. With the generous support of the Templeton Foundation, the program explored both foundational and timely questions about society, exchange, and governance—giving students the chance to engage with world-class faculty and each other in a rigorous, collaborative setting.

Inaugural Law, Markets, and Policy Workshop Convenes in Acciaroli

The very first Law, Markets, and Policy Workshop in beautiful Acciaroli, took place this summer from June 19 – 21. Over three inspiring days, Freedom Center leadership gathered with scholars and friends from around the world to talk about the big questions at the intersection of law, markets, and public policy. There were engaging presentations, thoughtful debates, shared meals, and meaningful connections — all set against the stunning backdrop of southern Italy.

Congratulations to PPEL Professor Maria Porter who was name one of five new Udall Center Fellows for 2025/26. These fellowships support outstanding academic inquiry and scholars who research diverse public policy research projects. Professor Porter is working on "Digital innovation for agricultural insurance: A case study in Ethiopia."
